Joshua Yospyn, Photographer, Washington, DC

Bio / Contact

A product of the Detroit-Cleveland-Pittsburgh rust belt, I moved to Washington, D.C. at the turn of the century and bounced around several jobs doing website design and photography. My freelance career began with The Washington Post, websites for MSNBC and eventually, I landed contracts with hyper-local online news organizations TBD.com (now defunct) and ABC7-WJLA/TV, where I had the odd and confusing distinction of being a still photographer for a TV station. (Also curious, my American-based projects tend to be more appealing to European publishers.)

I'm also a member of the nascent STRATA street photography collective and in May of 2014 I was hired to teach photography on behalf of the U.S. Embassy in Jordan, where I spent time in Palestinian and Syrian refugee camps. During 2014, I also created a multimedia piece on Iraqi refugees in Maine during a workshop at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies and another video on a riverkeeper during the Mountain Workshops in Berea, Kentucky.

Have a project for me? Let's Skype or if you're near Washington, D.C., I'm happy to present a portfolio.
