Iron Talk

Ibrahim Kargbo, a 28-year-old powerlifter who contracts full-time as a driver for an NGO in Sierra Leone, is training for his country’s “Salone Strongest Man” competition that takes place on April 29, 2017. Also known as “Big 50” (as in 50 Cent), Ibrahim was diagnosed with malaria two weeks ago and it put a bump in his routine, but it hasn’t stopped his resolve to win the 100 million Leone first prize (about $13,300).

Woman and Child

Portrait of a mother and child at a maternal and child health post in the community of Metchem, in Western Area Rural District, Sierra Leone on March 28, 2017. This facility was rehabilitated with support from USAID and handed back to local officials by project partners Advancing Partners & Communities and Save the Children during a (second) trip I was commissioned for to film and photograph post-Ebola progress in the country. Watch the first film or interviews with Ebola survivors.

Aberdeen, Sierra Leone

A few images from Aberdeen in Freetown, Sierra Leone in mid-February, 2016.  On a trip here filming the post-ebola healthcare situation for a USAID-funded project focused on maternal and child health, for which Sierra Leone ranks amongst the worst in the world.
